Answering the Call to Labor
A strong Lodge is not built by one man in the East alone. It is built by Brothers who are willing to step forward, take part in the labor, and share in the responsibility of the work.
Every Lodge has important work to do. Some efforts are highly visible, while others happen quietly behind the scenes. Some involve planning and leadership. Others require practical help, steady hands, or simply a willing spirit. Whatever the task may be, the truth remains the same: the Lodge is strongest when the work is shared.
Too often, Brethren wait to be asked. Yet it is far easier for a Brother to raise his own hand than it is for the Worshipful Master to search the room and wonder whom he should approach next. It is better to step forward willingly than to wait until the Master must ask, “Brother, will you help?”
There is something meaningful about volunteering. It reflects cheerful service, personal commitment, and a sincere desire to contribute to the good of the Lodge. It lightens the burden on those who are already carrying much, and it reminds us that the work of Masonry belongs to all of us, not just to a faithful few.
No Brother is expected to do everything, but every Brother can do something. Service does not require a title, nor must one be the chairman of a committee to make a difference. Sometimes the most valuable contribution is simply showing up, offering support, and being willing when needed.
In every Lodge there are opportunities to serve, to assist, to encourage, and to strengthen the bonds that unite the Brethren. When more Brothers take ownership of the work, the Lodge becomes healthier, stronger, and better prepared for the future.
The call is always before us. The opportunity is always near at hand. May we not wait for someone else to carry the labor that belongs to all.
Brethren, let us answer the call to labor. Raise your hand now.
